We’ve pioneered exterior cleaning in New Zealand for over 40 years and, since the beginning, have continually looked for ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Here are a few of our most important initiatives.
Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products
Our unique, salt-based detergents were developed by a leading industrial chemist to be effective and safe for use in the environment. With a biodegradable formulation, they can safely be used around humans, pets, wildlife and neighbouring plants.

As you can imagine, the Chemwash team gets through a lot of cleaning products over the course of a year, so we choose to invest in environmentally friendly detergents that aren’t harmful to humans or other living creatures.
Reducing Single-Use Plastics
According to recent reports, the average New Zealander sends more than 25kg of plastic to the landfill each year. With that number set to grow, scientists have predicted that unless we make changes, by 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
New Zealand is undertaking a mammoth project to ban the use of most single-use plastics by 2025. And while ordinary kiwis will all do their parts to move away from straws and plastic bags, it’s essential for businesses to get behind this campaign too.
Here at Chemwash, we believe in making sustainable choices wherever possible. From our biodegradable detergents down to the containers they come in, we strive to reduce the environmental impact of our business in every way we can.
Where possible, we recycle the containers our detergent arrives in, in partnership with our suppliers. Not only does this reduce single-use plastics, but it also demonstrates to our suppliers that there is demand for alternative packaging options.
